Kazakhstan’s Small Business Development and Economy

July 7th, 2010

**½

In the anti-crisis events that happened between 2008 and 2009, 127 billion Kazakh tenge was allotted in promoting small and mid-sized businesses.

Such an effort earned Kazakhstan a position in worldwide rankings. In fact, in the World Bank ranking, the country was the 63rd out of 183. Prior to that, it was the 70th in 2008 and 80th a year before that. In addition to this, based on the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook in 2009, Kazakhstan was ranked the 36th. This ranking was a significant improvement of their 2008 position, where the country ranked 39th.

Small and medium-sized business were provided loans in acquiring new assets, refinancing operating loans, initiating work capital and renewing existing assets.

Financial System

At present, the Alliance Bank’s restructuring commitments had been dealt with. The BTA Bank, previously known as Bank TuranAlem and currently the largest Bank in the country, reached an agreement on financial debt pardon with its external creditors. Thus, the two banks’ total debt was lessened from $15B to $5B. Since then, the nation’s banking system has been stabilized. While other banks are struggling for stability, the State would form actions in selling its stake to the private sector.

As of December 1st 2009, Kazakhstan’s banking system deposits totaled to 6,257.9 billion Kazakh tenge, which was an improvement by 20.1% from 2008. Likewise, the population’s deposit amounted to 1,806.8 billion tenge, which was an increase by 25.2%.

It’s this time of the year again. The 13th Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is coming!

This year’s RWMF will take place at the usual venue, Sarawak Cultural Village, from July 9 to 11.

I heard that the 3-day pass is sold out. Now left only 1-day pass.

The organisers would screen the World Cup final, which is scheduled to be played at 2.30am on June 12, an hour after the end of the music fest.

There will also be a big screenput up at the venue to show the World Cup final so that people can stay to watch instead of rushing home for the game.

Festival organisers also took pride in introducing two new features namely corporate seats and corporate lounge at the ‘baruk’. Only 60 persons are allowed to occupy the corporate seats per night. Priced at RM200 inclusive of entrance ticket per person, the seats are sold on a first-come first-served basis.

For the corporate lounge, 120 persons per night will get to enjoy first round of drinks and snacks. It costs RM150 inclusive of ticket per person, also available on a first-come first-served basis.

If you’re student, you could enjoy half price with each limited to two tickets this year.

UCSI has partnered with Celcom to offer a 50 per cent discount for students. These limited tickets are available at Boulevard Shopping Mall and Celcom’s Blue Cube of tHe Spring Shopping Mall from 10am to 10pm, June 27 to July 4.

Meanwhile, tickets will be available at 20 per cent discount, which is RM88, at tHe Spring Shopping Mall, Boulevard Shopping Mall and Wisma Saberkas from 2pm to 9pm until July 4.

Government servants are not left out too. They will get special discounts on June 28 and 29. Tickets priced at RM88 each will be available for civil servants at Simpang Tiga Complex, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Wisma Pelita, Bangunan Baitulmakmur and Wisma STIDC during office hours.

The World Craft Bazaar will also be held from July 7 to 10 in conjunction with the festival.

Show Luo in Kuching

May 30th, 2010

**½

Did you go to tHe Spring last Saturday for Show Luo’s meet the fan session? The crowd was crazy! Many unruly fans. The place was packed too even before the doors are opened, fans were piling up the entrance ready to make their way to the stage area.

Not familiar with the camera’s setting, all photos turned out blur. Too bad…

Anyway, show some photos with you in case you are wondering who this guy is and in case you want to see more of him.

Interaction with the fans. It was disappointing that he only sang one song though. No video to share because we thought that he might sing another song but he didn’t.

Were you there?
